HHRobert Tait was born at Barkip, in the Parish of Dalry in Ayrshire, on 20th March, 1874. Around 1894 he moved to Cambuslang in the east end of Glasgow to follow his work as a collier, and was then married to Agnes Fleming, a member of a very old Cambuslang family. Friends in the Wingate Burns Club encouraged him in his literary work. He became an occasional contributor to the local papers, his first venture into print being a poem on the death of the famous preacher, Rev. C. H. Spurgeon, which appeared in the Dundee Weekly News.
