Jan Peterson (nee Craig) grew up on a dairy farm near Strathaven, in South Lanarkshire, and was educated at Gilmourton Primary School and Strathaven Academy, during the 1940's and 1950's, before emigrating with her family to Kingston, Ontario, in Canada, in 1957. In this narrative, she draws on her personal experience of life on a Scottish farm.
