Notes:
A magazine produced by the National Coal Board's Scottish Division training centre. It contains articles relating to sports and outdoor activities and other social events held during the year. Many items have been contributed by the trainees. Also known as Dungavel Castle or Dungavel House, the building was originally a 19th-century hunting lodge, and summer retreat of the Dukes of Hamilton. It was the home of the Duke from 1919 and was the planned destination for Rudolf Hess's doomed 1941 peace mission. The thirteenth Duke of Hamilton is buried there. Dungavel was sold to the National Coal Board in 1947, and then acquired by the government to use an open prison. In 2001 it became a centre for holding asylum seekers whose applications have been refused prior to their removal. It is situated near the town of Strathaven, in South Lanarkshire.
