This work presents his account of the fight against tedium and monotony in 'the San' and how positive thinking and optimism brought about dramatic changes for both himself and his fellow patients. "A War on the Wards" gives a very different perspective of the war during 1939-1945. J. Crozier spent many years in a Scottish sanatorium following diagnosis of the killer disease, TB. This is his poignant account of the fight against tedium and monotony in 'the San' and how positive thinking and optimism brought about dramatic changes for both himself and his fellow patients. Biography/History:
Having spent most of the war years confined to life in Sanatoria, the author had some difficulty in obtaining suitable employment following cessation of hostilities. Finally, he accepted a position of site-clerk with a large building company, with contractors all over Scotland, and for the next thirty-five years continued in administration work with another two companies in the construction industry, culminating in a position of company secretary with a small, successful and profitable specialist civil engineering contractor, which was taken over by a large English contractors consortium, resulting in 're-organisation' and subsequent redundancy at the age of 59. Again, being unsuccessful in obtaining suitable employment this time at such an age, he emigrated to Spain, where for a few years in semi-retirement he undertook duties as a part-time accountant with an English property agency, before returning to the new town of East Kilbride where he now lives, aged 85.
